POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Child Protection Specialist is dedicated to enhancing the competencies and knowledge of child welfare professionals while fostering a family-centered practice culture that incorporates insights from research and reflective practices. This role involves conducting specialized evaluations and interventions, overseeing case reviews, managing appeals, and maintaining comprehensive case documentation. The Specialist will engage with children, their families, caregivers, and other professionals involved in child welfare.
The Lead Specialist will deliver advanced expertise and provide secondary consultations and real-time supervision; facilitate staff mentoring and professional development; and lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement grounded in clinical best practices.
Transportation of children is a necessary aspect of this position, therefore, a valid driver's license and a willingness to travel, including to rural areas, are essential. There may also be a need for overnight work and travel during evenings and early mornings.
A solid understanding of Aboriginal culture is required, along with knowledge of the legislative, policy, and practice frameworks pertaining to Aboriginal children, families, and communities. This includes familiarity with the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and the various programs and initiatives that support its application in child welfare practices.
