POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Child Protection Specialist, Community Based is a pivotal role within the child welfare sector, functioning as an integral member of a collaborative team from The Orange Door in the designated locality. This position operates under the supervision of the Team Manager, Community Based, and may necessitate occasional visits to the local Child Protection office for relevant activities and discussions. In a multidisciplinary environment, the Senior Specialist will offer guidance, support, and expert consultation to practitioners at The Orange Door, as well as to Family Services, Specialist Family Violence Services, and Men's Services when necessary. This role is crucial in addressing significant concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of children and adolescents. The Specialist will work in partnership with various services to facilitate timely and effective interventions for at-risk children, young individuals, and their families, and, when appropriate, assist in engaging families with the necessary services. Responsibilities may include direct involvement with unborn children, particularly in cases where there is a substantial risk of child protection intervention following birth. Additionally, this position may contribute to the child protection program by aiding in the early identification and referral processes to The Orange Door and/or Integrated Family Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Risk Assessment and Management: proficiently navigates complex cases, providing support, advice, and guidance to colleagues in understanding and applying relevant frameworks. Case Planning and Oversight: leads and coordinates the planning, review, and management of individual case work. Analytical Inquiry: leverages insights from analytical inquiry to enhance and expand existing knowledge and skills, while supporting others in applying evidence-based frameworks to address challenges. Comprehensive Reporting: adeptly produces a variety of documentation in a professional manner.
