Job Overview - Senior Control Systems Engineer

Position Summary:
The Senior Control Systems Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the Honeywell Distributed Control System (DCS). This role supports operational efficiency by collaborating with control room operators and instrumentation maintenance teams. The engineer will also oversee the alarm management program to ensure safe and effective operations within the facility. Additionally, the position involves developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation related to control schemes and programming.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Troubleshoot and maintain DCS (Honeywell TDC 3000 & Experion), including control schemes, graphics, and tags.
2. Provide daily support for control systems to designated operating units.
3. Collaborate with operations and process engineering teams.
4. Design and implement process control strategies and techniques.
5. Analyze and resolve controller performance issues, including PID loop tuning.
6. Conduct alarm reviews with operations to support corporate alarm rationalization initiatives.
7. Assist project engineers with funding, execution, and development of control schemes.
8. Maintain and support the advanced process control program, communicating performance metrics to process engineering and operations.
9. Develop and keep up-to-date control-related documentation.
10. Work alongside instrumentation maintenance personnel to troubleshoot plant-related issues.
11. Present information effectively and respond to inquiries from operations, maintenance staff, and management.
12. Address practical problems in situations with limited standardization of solutions.
13. Actively contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
14. Provide support for occasional weekend callouts and turnaround coverage.

Qualifications:
- Must be able and willing to work on-site.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a petroleum refinery is essential.
- Experience in process engineering is preferred.
- Required experience in process control and/or control systems engineering, including at least 2 years of DCS control experience.
- This position is salaried exempt, meaning overtime pay is not applicable.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is between $127,000 and $175,000, reflecting Valero's good faith estimate of expected compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on various job-related factors, including individual qualifications and experience.

All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). Valero's policy mandates that employees must wear this card at all times while working.
