As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of advanced Distributed Control Systems (DCS). You will also oversee the alarm management program to enhance safety and efficiency in plant operations. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation related to control strategies and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Diagnose and maintain DCS, including control strategies, visualizations, and identifiers.
2. Provide daily support for control systems to designated operational units.
3. Collaborate with operations and process engineering teams.
4. Design and implement process control strategies and methodologies.
5. Analyze and resolve performance issues related to controllers, including tuning of PID loops.
6. Conduct alarm reviews in partnership with operations to support alarm rationalization initiatives.
7. Assist project engineers with funding, execution, and development of control strategies.
8. Maintain and enhance the advanced process control program, communicating performance metrics to relevant teams.
9. Create and update documentation related to control systems.
10. Work alongside instrumentation maintenance staff to resolve plant-related issues.
11. Present information effectively and respond to inquiries from operations, maintenance, and management.
12. Tackle practical challenges in situations with limited standardized solutions.
13. Actively contribute to a safe working environment.
14. Be available for occasional weekend callouts and project turnarounds.
Qualifications:
- Must be willing to work on-site.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a petroleum refining environment is essential.
- Experience in process engineering is preferred.
- Required experience in process control and/or control systems engineering, with at least 2 years in DCS.
- This position is classified as salaried exempt, indicating ineligibility for overtime pay.
The salary range for this position is between $127,000 and $175,000, reflecting Valero's good faith estimate of expected compensation.
Actual compensation will be determined based on various job-related factors, including individual qualifications and experience.
All candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential), which is mandatory while working at the refinery.
