Position Overview:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal role within Disability Rights California, reporting directly to the Associate Executive Director of Finance and Administration. This position is responsible for steering the Accounting team in overseeing all financial operations of the organization. The CFO will manage the daily functions of a dynamic Accounting Department, ensuring the precise and timely execution of all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities:
The CFO will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Associate Executive Directors, Board of Directors, and management team to:

  1. Develop annual budgets and conduct ongoing financial monitoring and forecasting.
  2. Oversee the external audit process for the annual financial audit, 401k audit, and funder audits.
  3. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and maintain a high standard of accuracy and timeliness in all job functions.

Essential Functions:
The essential functions of the CFO include:

  1. Leadership: Direct the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of all accounting personnel, fostering a culture of mentorship and professional growth.
  2. Financial Management: Oversee all aspects of the Accounting Department, including policies, systems, payroll, accounts payable, cash management, and financial reporting.
  3. Reporting: Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  4. Audit Coordination: Manage the annual financial and 401k audits, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
  5. Policy Development: Establish and refine accounting policies and procedures to align with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of ten years of experience in a financial leadership role within a non-profit organization.
  3. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and compliance regulations relevant to the non-profit sector.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
  5. Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, particularly using Microsoft Excel.
