Under the overarching guidance of the College President, the Chief Student Affairs Officer is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of all Student Affairs initiatives. This role encompasses the planning and financial oversight, staff selection, and accountability for various categorical programs. The college is in search of a dedicated individual to enhance student access, achievement, and completion rates.

The Chief Student Affairs Officer directly supervises all administrators within student services, including areas such as Student Development, Support Services, Equity Programs, Pathways, and Counseling. This position plays a pivotal role in articulating and advocating for the vision, values, mission, and objectives of Student Affairs across the college, district, and broader community.

Collaboration with other Vice Presidents across operational areas is essential to lead and support the planning and execution of college-wide programs and initiatives, particularly those related to institutional redesign efforts.

Engagement with colleagues throughout the Los Rios Community College District is crucial for evaluating district regulations, policies, and procedures that pertain to effective implementation and accountability.

The department focuses on:

  • Providing integrated and comprehensive student services, especially for those facing various economic and educational challenges.
  • Utilizing technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of student services operations.
  • Fostering collaborative relationships within and among diverse student services and instructional departments, as well as other stakeholder groups.
  • Evaluating program effectiveness, setting and implementing goals, streamlining workflows, and ensuring staff accountability while successfully completing projects.
  • Promoting student advancement and diversity.
  • Facilitating staff professional development and training.
  • Upholding respect and civility within the workplace and the academic community.
  • Planning and guiding positive organizational change, taking into account the lived experiences of others.
Typical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Recognizing the significant impact of race, culture, and language on student success, and striving to create culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services for all students.
  • Overseeing the administration of Student Affairs functions at the main campus and outreach centers, including counseling, matriculation, financial aid, Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), veterans services, health services, and career development.
  • Acting as a senior administrator for implementing and assessing substantial institutional redesign initiatives.
  • Anticipating and addressing the evolving needs of students and the community, as well as changing demographics and organizational requirements.
  • Collaborating with institutional research and instructional leaders to promote innovation through a culture of inquiry and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ensuring accountability for student services categorical programs and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Managing resource assessment, planning, budgeting, and allocation processes.
  • Advocating for the community college mission and the needs of all students, emphasizing the importance of student services in achieving success.
  • Promoting equity, open access, and a commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Providing supervision, evaluation, and professional development for assigned staff, and making recommendations regarding hiring, retention, or dismissal of personnel.
  • Participating as a member of the President's Cabinet, assisting in outreach and community engagement efforts.
  • Serving on various college, district, and state committees as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include:
  1. A master's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Two years of relevant training, internship, or leadership experience.
  3. An equity-minded approach with sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students, including those with disabilities.
