Job Responsibilities

The Family Services Specialist in APS will collaborate closely with the APS senior worker to ensure the well-being of the senior population. This role involves investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and fraud. Once adequately trained, the individual will participate in an on-call rotation and may need to respond to urgent situations. While primarily focused on APS, this position will also serve as a backup for Child Protective Services.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Delivering comprehensive case management, referrals, and support to clients within an assigned caseload. Handling cases that necessitate deeper involvement in sensitive and distressing circumstances; some roles may focus on specific populations. Conducting client interviews and evaluating situations to determine service needs. Collaborating with family members, educational institutions, and other human service organizations to formulate service plans tailored to client needs. Preparing documentation and initiating referrals to other departments or agencies. Advocating for clients in accessing medical and financial assistance, as well as ensuring client rights are upheld.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies governing social services, including foster care, adoption, and protective services. Understanding of the documentation and protocols associated with relevant social services programs. Proficiency in interviewing techniques and interpersonal communication. Awareness of social and economic factors affecting family dynamics and challenges. Knowledge of additional programs offered through the Department of Social Services and community organizations. Ability to conduct interviews, identify client needs, consult with various stakeholders, develop service plans, and investigate potential abuse or neglect cases. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline accompanied by at least two years of relevant experience in Human Services.

Preferred Qualifications

Significant experience in the relevant program area and completion of necessary training programs or a comparable combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
