About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Manager to join our team at Albertsons. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Design, introduce, and monitor programs and practices to minimize exposure to risk and associated expenses. Proactively prevent exposure to future risks and manage costs associated with ongoing claims.
  • Train and Support Operations: Provide training and support to ensure quality injury and accident investigation techniques are utilized across the organization.
  • Analyze and Identify Risks: Analyze factors that may create injuries, accidents, or enable multiple accidents. Identify potential high-risk accident situations and assist departments in implementing control strategies.
  • Develop and Monitor Adherence: Develop, introduce, implement, and monitor adherence to Albertsons' safety programs, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Interface with External Agencies: Act as the primary interface with government agencies, insurance companies, and other external stakeholders. Represent Albertsons' interests at regulatory agency proceedings.
  • Develop and Review Reports: Develop, request, and review accident statistical reports to focus efforts on injury trends and corrective actions.
  • Communicate Risk Control and Safety Issues: Communicate risk control and safety issues and objectives to distribution associates.
  • Manage Claims and Return-to-Work Programs: Work closely with 3rd party worker's compensation claims administrators to manage claims and implement return-to-work programs.
  • Collaborate with Insurance Consultants: Work closely with property and liability insurance consultants to coordinate inspections, evaluate recommendations, and ensure completion of agreed-upon recommendations.
  • Work with Regulators: Collaborate with a wide variety of state and federal regulators to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Implement Corporate Directives: Implement corporate directives related to ergonomic observations, hazard assessments, approved practices, data analysis, and metrics analysis.
  • Develop and Coordinate Training Programs: Develop, facilitate, and coordinate applicable training programs to ensure new associates are trained on safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Distribution Center Security: Ensure the Distribution Center security program has necessary controls in place to provide a safe and secure workplace.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Four-year degree or equivalent experience required. Professional certification, such as OSHA 30, OSHA 511, GSP, ASP, CSP, and/or ARM preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Broad working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, health, environmental, and worker's compensation laws and regulations. Knowledge of medical, legal, and hazardous chemical terminology. Knowledge of industrial security best practices and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to Work a Flexible Schedule: Ability to work a flexible work schedule.
  • Excellent PC Skills: Excellent PC skills required.
  • Effective Communication: Proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and provide superior customer service.
Physical Environment

Some work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment, while some work is performed in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.

  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal. The incumbent may walk, climb stairs, or stand in the warehouse for long periods of time.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, and reaching may be required in the completion of job duties.
  • Travel up to 10%.
