POSITION SUMMARY:

The Child Development Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Group Supervisor/Assistant Group Supervisor with the effective management of the classroom environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the guidance of the Center Director and/or the Group Supervisor/Assistant Group Supervisor, the Aide is expected to:


  1. Perform duties in alignment with all YMCA Personnel and Child Care Policies, adhering to State Regulations for Child Care Centers and embodying the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  2. Participate in training sessions and remain knowledgeable about policies related to Risk Management.
  3. Promptly report any concerns regarding children, programs, or colleagues to the Center Director.
  4. Establish and demonstrate effective classroom management skills and techniques.
  5. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by providing appropriate supervision and engaging interactions.
  6. Utilize positive guidance, re-direction, and conflict resolution strategies to manage behaviors, establishing reasonable limits and consistently enforcing them.
  7. Assist the Group Supervisor/Assistant Group Supervisor in implementing daily activities that are developmentally appropriate, fostering the child's self-image, confidence, and sense of worth.
  8. Actively participate in all center activities, including field trips, swimming, food service, and cleaning tasks.
  9. Help maintain a clean and organized classroom and center environment through various cleaning duties as directed by the Center Director or Group Supervisor.
  10. Welcome parents and direct any concerns to the Group Supervisor/Assistant Group Supervisor immediately.
  11. Uphold the confidentiality of children's records and other sensitive information.
  12. Collaborate with other educators to coordinate schedules, breaks, and activities while ensuring appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
  13. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities; maintain a Professional Development Record and ensure completion of required training hours as per State Regulations and STARS program guidelines.
  14. Assist the Center Director with additional responsibilities as needed to ensure high-quality child care services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or an 8th-grade education with two years of experience working with children.
  • A minimum of an 8th-grade education and enrollment in a relevant training program.
  • Ability to meet the qualifications and responsibilities outlined in the Pennsylvania Code Title 55 Chapter 3270 for Public Welfare Aides.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to reach a child from a distance of 30 feet in 10 seconds without risk to health.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills, emotional maturity, a positive outlook, enthusiasm, and professionalism towards families and staff.
  • Willingness to collaborate with all staff members, children, and parents.
