Metals Supervisor Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Metals Supervisor to lead and manage our metal fabrication and processing operations. This pivotal role entails overseeing a dedicated team of metalworkers, ensuring that all tasks related to metalwork are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the highest quality standards. The Metals Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating work schedules, tracking project progress, and implementing industry best practices in metal fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership:
    • Direct and mentor a team of metalworkers, welders, and fabricators, providing essential guidance and support.
    • Establish work schedules and assign tasks to ensure the timely completion of projects.
    • Conduct performance assessments and manage personnel-related issues.
  • Fabrication Oversight:
    • Supervise the fabrication, welding, and assembly of metal components in line with project specifications.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality benchmarks.
    • Perform inspections to verify the quality of metal parts and assemblies, making necessary adjustments.
  • Safety Management:
    • Implement and uphold safety protocols to foster a secure working environment.
    • Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including OSHA requirements.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and training to cultivate a safety-first culture.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Establish and maintain quality control measures to guarantee that all metalwork meets or surpasses project expectations.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend enhancements to boost efficiency and quality.
    • Promptly address and resolve any quality-related issues.
  • Resource Management:
    • Oversee the inventory of metal materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring adequate supplies and proper maintenance.
    • Collaborate with procurement teams to acquire necessary materials and equipment.
    • Manage resource utilization to minimize waste and enhance cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive records of fabrication activities, including completed work, materials utilized, and encountered issues.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on production progress, quality metrics, and safety performance to senior management.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience or an Associate's degree with 4 years of directly related experience, or 8 years of relevant shipbuilding or repair experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine equipment, ship repair techniques, safety practices, and mathematical principles applicable to shipping activities.
  • Prior experience in metal trades or as a Fitter.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets, with the ability to interpret technical instructions.

Compensation

Competitive salary range from $90,000 to $110,000 annually.
