Metals Supervisor Overview
We are in search of a dedicated Metals Supervisor to manage and oversee the metal fabrication and processing operations within our organization.

This position entails supervising a skilled team of metalworkers, ensuring that all tasks related to metalwork are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Metals Supervisor

  • Team Leadership and Management:
    Guide and supervise a team of metalworkers, welders, and fabricators, offering training and support. Develop work schedules and assign tasks to ensure the timely completion of projects. Conduct performance assessments and address any personnel-related issues.
  • Fabrication and Processing Oversight:
    Manage the fabrication, welding, and installation of metal components and structures in line with project specifications. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements. Regularly inspect and verify the quality of metal parts and assemblies, making necessary adjustments.
  • Safety and Compliance Enforcement:
    Implement safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for all team members. Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards. Conduct routine safety audits and training sessions to foster a culture of safety.
  • Quality Control and Continuous Improvement:
    Establish and uphold quality control processes to guarantee that all metalwork meets or surpasses project standards. Identify opportunities for improvement in fabrication processes and propose changes to enhance efficiency and quality. Promptly address and resolve any quality-related issues.
  • Resource and Inventory Management:
    Oversee the inventory of metal materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring sufficient supply and proper maintenance. Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to order necessary materials and equipment. Manage resource utilization to minimize waste and optimize cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Maintain accurate records of fabrication activities, including completed work, materials utilized, and any encountered issues. Prepare and submit regular reports on production progress, quality metrics, and safety performance to senior management.

Position Requirements for Metals Supervisor

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience or an Associate's degree with 4 years of directly related experience, or 8 years of experience in shipbuilding or repair.
  • Knowledge of marine-related equipment, ship repair and construction techniques, sequencing of ship repair activities, shipyard safety practices, and complex mathematical principles as applied to shipping activities.
  • Prior experience as a Fitter or in other metal trades.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and applications such as word processing and spreadsheets; ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
