The Metal Fabrication Supervisor will organize work schedules, track progress, and implement optimal practices in metal fabrication.
- Team Leadership:
- Direct and manage a team of metalworkers, welders, and fabricators, offering guidance, training, and support.
- Create work schedules and assign tasks to guarantee timely completion of fabrication projects.
- Conduct performance assessments and address any personnel challenges or conflicts.
- Fabrication Oversight:
- Supervise the fabrication, welding, and assembly of metal components and structures in accordance with project specifications.
- Ensure all metalwork complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality benchmarks.
- Inspect and validate the quality of metal parts and assemblies, making necessary adjustments or corrections.
- Safety Management:
- Implement safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure working environment for all team members.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to foster a culture of safety.
- Quality Assurance:
- Establish and uphold quality control measures to ensure all metalwork meets or surpasses project standards.
- Identify opportunities for enhancement in fabrication processes and propose changes to boost efficiency and quality.
- Promptly address and resolve any quality concerns or discrepancies.
- Resource Management:
- Oversee the inventory of metal materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring sufficient supply and proper maintenance.
- Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to acquire necessary materials and equipment.
- Manage resource utilization to minimize waste and enhance cost-effectiveness.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain precise records of fabrication activities, including completed work, materials utilized, and any encountered issues.
- Prepare and present regular reports on production progress, quality metrics, and safety performance to senior management.
- Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience in a related field, or an Associate's degree with 4 years of directly related experience, or 8 years of relevant shipbuilding/repair experience.
- Familiarity with marine-related equipment, ship repair and construction techniques, sequencing of repair activities, shipyard safety practices, and complex mathematical principles applicable to shipping activities.
- Prior experience as a Fitter or in other metal trades.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building capabilities.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications such as word processing and spreadsheets; ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
