POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general guidance of the Store or Outlet Manager, the Assistant Manager is tasked with supporting the overall operations of the retail establishment. This includes overseeing collections, processing, sales, financial performance, loss prevention strategies, and personnel management. The Assistant Manager may supervise store associates and shift supervisors during scheduled shifts, as designated by the Store Manager or in their absence. Responsibilities may also extend to supervising community service workers and supported employment crews.

WORK SCHEDULE: Regular weekend, evening, and holiday hours are typically required, consistent with retail operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

STORE OPERATIONS

  • Manage the handling and processing of incoming and outgoing materials, including donations and merchandise.
  • Optimize processing of used goods through effective sorting, preparation, and pricing techniques, consistently meeting production goals.
  • Enhance sales performance through effective inventory management, pricing strategies, and promotional displays, aiming to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Ensure high-quality customer service is delivered by all staff, addressing customer inquiries and concerns promptly.
  • Oversee the management of supported employment crews and community service workers.
  • Maintain a clean and inviting sales floor, ensuring all areas are presentable and functional.
  • Ensure all operational areas, including cash registers and restrooms, are well-maintained.
  • Regularly assess the appearance of the store's exterior and surrounding areas.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks in designated areas.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the Store Manager in budget management, including payroll and expense control.
  • Ensure accurate cash management and adherence to cash register procedures.
  • Review daily cash reports and ensure timely bank deposits.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed by staff.
  • Ensure proper use of safety equipment and procedures during store operations.
  • Report and investigate any suspicions of fraud or safety concerns promptly.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and management of store personnel to ensure an effective workforce.
  • Schedule employees to meet operational needs and maintain adequate coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures among staff.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform necessary banking transactions related to store operations.
  • Respond to alarm notifications as required, following established procedures.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and operational documents.
  • Basic mathematical skills for financial transactions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong integrity and ethical standards in business practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires regular standing, walking, and lifting of items up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Employees may need to assist customers with heavy items and maintain safety standards during such activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is typically fast-paced, with regular deadlines and production goals. Employees may be exposed to various conditions, including wet or humid environments and moving mechanical parts.
