POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general guidance of the Store or Outlet Manager, the Assistant Manager is tasked with supporting the overall operational functions of the store. This includes overseeing collections, processing, sales, financial outcomes, loss prevention measures, and staff management. The Assistant Manager may supervise store associates and shift leaders during assigned shifts, stepping in for the Store Manager when necessary. Responsibilities may also extend to managing community service workers and supported employment teams.

WORK SCHEDULE: Regular weekend, evening, and holiday hours are typically required in accordance with retail industry standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

STORE OPERATIONS

  • Manage the effective handling and processing of incoming and outgoing materials, including donations and merchandise.
  • Optimize the processing of used goods by applying Goodwill's techniques for sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale, consistently meeting production targets.
  • Enhance sales performance through effective merchandise rotation, pricing strategies, display techniques, signage, promotions, and inventory management.
  • Ensure high-quality customer service is delivered by all staff to shoppers, donors, and fellow employees.
  • Oversee the management of supported employment teams and community service workers assigned to the store.
  • Maintain a clean and appealing sales floor environment, ensuring proper care of fitting rooms, cash registers, and customer service areas.
  • Ensure all store facilities, including doors and restrooms, are in good working order.
  • Maintain the exterior appearance of the building and parking lot.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks in designated areas.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the Store Manager in managing the store budget, including payroll, achieving processing goals, revenue generation, and expense control.
  • Ensure proper cash management and adherence to cash register procedures.
  • Review daily cash reports and ensure timely bank deposits.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

  • Maintain a clean and safe store environment, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations.
  • Manage safety protocols and ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures.
  • Report and investigate any suspicions or allegations of fraud.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and management of store personnel to ensure an efficient workforce.
  • Schedule employees to meet production and customer service needs.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures by all staff.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform necessary banking transactions related to store operations.
  • Respond to alarm notifications as part of the Alarm Responder Roster.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills for handling financial transactions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively. Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 100 pounds and push heavy carts. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is typically fast-paced with regular deadlines. Employees may be exposed to various conditions, including wet or humid environments and mechanical parts.
