Key Responsibilities

We are seeking candidates to provide technical leadership for a sophisticated multi-robot system. As the head of our Mechanical Engineering division, you will guide decision-making and offer architectural direction for automation systems and mechanical solutions, overseeing the entire development design cycle from initial concept through to production and scaling.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading generational and continuous improvement initiatives for our automation equipment, both as a team leader and a senior contributor.
  • Managing the development of complex automation design projects from conception to production implementation.
  • Assisting the team in crafting effective solutions to intricate challenges, from system-level considerations to individual components.
  • Establishing engineering processes and procedures to foster team success.
  • Mentoring colleagues and facilitating collaborative design efforts to enhance technical growth.
  • Defining project scope, requirements, budget, and timelines accurately. Prioritizing tasks in alignment with the company’s business roadmap and evaluating the value of work by balancing reliability, operational expenditure, capital expenditure, throughput, and performance enhancement opportunities.
  • Directing design efforts towards functional and efficient deployment, large-scale manufacturing, and long-term reliability.
  • Identifying and implementing mechanical design enhancements and product modifications to resolve issues, verifying effectiveness through data-driven approaches.
  • Leading cost reduction initiatives as designs evolve.
  • Ensuring high standards of data management, including modeling and drawing quality, release workflow oversight, PLM integration, and BOM accuracy.
  • Collaborating with global suppliers to maintain product and manufacturing process quality.
  • Partnering with NPI and Operations teams to facilitate hardware deployment in new facilities.
  • Contributing to the overall performance of the company by fostering a positive work culture, promoting sound engineering practices, and enhancing robust engineering workflows and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing high-reliability automation or robotic systems.
  • Experience in both startup environments and larger, established organizations.
  • Expertise in motorized and pneumatic mechanisms.
  • A collaborative mindset with a focus on improving the capabilities of those around you.
  • Hands-on skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
  • Ability to generate innovative ideas in response to complex challenges and execute solutions.
  • Proficiency in CAD, particularly Solidworks, and experience with PLM configuration.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in designing and manufacturing parts, assemblies, and mechanisms at scale.
  • Six Sigma training.
  • Project management experience.
  • Background in food technology.
  • A desire to thrive in a fast-paced startup atmosphere.

  • Familiarity with regulatory standards relevant to automation design.
  • A willingness to work with robotic systems.

  • The salary range for this position is $220,000 - $250,000, plus stock options and benefits, with compensation based on experience and relevant skills.
