POSITION PURPOSE:

The Power Plant Control Operator plays a crucial role in the operation and routine preventive and predictive maintenance of power plant systems. This includes managing High Pressure water tube boilers, steam-driven turbine generators, steam and electric chillers, wastewater systems, and other auxiliary equipment associated with power generation.

The operator is responsible for recording operational data and reporting any irregularities. Under general supervision, the control room operator will manage all plant equipment through a distributed control system. They will guide floor operators during startup, shutdown, and emergency control operations as necessary. These responsibilities must be executed safely, efficiently, and reliably to ensure a continuous utility supply to customers.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluate and ensure the proper functioning of all machinery.
2. Adhere to and promote established practices, utilizing operation and service manuals to maintain optimal machinery performance.
3. Operate equipment to fulfill utility customer requirements.
4. Monitor and document pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption of operating equipment.
5. Identify and notify relevant personnel of maintenance needs.
6. Observe, record, and interpret data from instrumentation and control systems, calculating and reporting findings.
7. Read and understand information on material safety data sheets.
8. Apply knowledge of hand and power tools for the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps, and associated equipment.
9. Conduct functional testing of plant systems and components, assessing data against established standards or sound power plant practices.
10. Perform water testing as required.
11. May need to obtain certification for wearing a full-face respirator.
12. Promote and practice safety according to established procedures, reporting or addressing any unsafe conditions.
13. Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively and follow directions from management.
14. Be punctual and ready to work at the designated time.
15. Be available for occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime as needed.
16. Be prepared to work rotating shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
17. Maintain a diplomatic interface with colleagues and the public.
18. Perform housekeeping duties as necessary.
19. Occasionally conduct on-the-job and classroom training, preparing lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, examinations, qualification standards, and other materials related to employee training and development.
