The Power Plant Control Room Operator is a critical role within Veolia Environnement SA, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our power plant systems. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the plant's equipment, performing routine maintenance, and reporting any abnormalities to ensure continuous utility supply to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and maintain proper operation of all machinery, adhering to established practices and procedures.
- Operate equipment to meet the requirements of utility customers, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Monitor and record pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption on the operating equipment, identifying any deviations from normal operating parameters.
- Identify and inform appropriate individuals of symptoms requiring maintenance action, ensuring prompt resolution to minimize downtime.
- Observe, record, and interpret indications from instrumentation and control systems, calculating and evaluating findings to inform maintenance decisions.
- Apply knowledge of hand and power tools, as well as general repair knowledge, to assist in the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps, and associated equipment.
- Perform functional testing of plant systems and components, interpreting acceptability of data in comparison with established standards or sound power plant practices.
- May be required to obtain certification to wear a full-face respirator, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Perform and promote work in a safe manner, adhering to established safety procedures and reporting or rectifying any unsafe conditions.
- Display willingness to work in a team environment, following directions and instructions from members of management.
- Be present and ready to begin working at the designated time, with flexibility to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime as required.
- Be available to work rotating shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends, as needed.
- Have the ability to interface diplomatically with other employees and the public, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
- Perform housekeeping duties as required, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
- Conduct on-the-job and classroom training on occasion, preparing lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, examinations, qualification standards, and other material related to employee training and development.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 5 years' experience in a process-related field, such as the chemical industry, refinery, heating, generation, or any field requiring a demonstrated aptitude for applying skills to an involved or complicated process.
- 3 years' journeyman-level experience in a power plant environment, with boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, and water treatment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and drawings, as well as procedures.
- Working knowledge of the maintenance of daily plant logs.
- Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with sound safety practices using hand tools and power equipment related to job assignments.
- Able to work rotating-shift assignments to support plant operations.
- Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment, and portable radio communication.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs, with the capacity to lift 50 pounds.
- Valid United States driver's license.
- Ability to possess or obtain forklift certification.
