Established in Austin, Texas, MLF has been serving its neighbors in need since 1998, primarily through three essential programs: Truck Ministry, Community First Village, and Community Works. Community First Village, a 51-acre planned community, aims to provide affordable housing and a supportive environment for individuals transitioning out of chronic homelessness.


Role Summary

The Janitorial Manager plays a vital role within the Grounds & Facilities department at Community First Village, overseeing the cleanliness and maintenance of the property. This position is crucial for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for both residents and staff. The Janitorial Manager will lead a team of Janitorial Coordinators and formerly homeless independent contractors, fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.

This full-time position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to cultivate positive relationships within the community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspire a team of Janitorial Coordinators.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, and performance of new Janitorial Coordinators.
  • Effectively assign tasks to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
  • Develop and document operational procedures to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Oversee the administrative aspects of janitorial contracts and supplies.
  • Ensure comprehensive training for team members, promoting clear communication with the Facilities Team.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to maintain cleanliness and address any issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with other staff members for specialized cleaning needs.
  • Monitor safety protocols related to equipment and supplies, reporting any hazards.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings to align on goals and strategies.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Alignment with MLF's mission and commitment to serving those experiencing homelessness.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in managing janitorial services in various settings.
  • Ability to lead and train a diverse workforce.
  • Experience in commercial cleaning and inventory management is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications for effective documentation and collaboration.
  • Valid driver's license is necessary.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, climbing, and bending.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with cleaning environments.
  • Noise levels may vary, with some exposure to higher noise levels expected.
