Position Overview:

The Educational Program Coordinator will cultivate constructive educational relationships with targeted student populations, their families, and site personnel. Key responsibilities include offering non-credit enrichment and credit-bearing courses, organizing college visits, providing tutoring, advising, and delivering various student support services both online and in-person to enhance awareness of educational opportunities and resources.

Upward Bound is a federally funded initiative aimed at increasing college enrollment among low-income and first-generation college-bound high school students.

Individuals who have triumphed over challenges similar to those faced by the target demographic are encouraged to consider this opportunity.

The work schedule for this role is adaptable and may involve evening and weekend hours, as well as local travel.

Continued employment in this position is dependent on ongoing funding from designated external sources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and educational officials to advocate for the program's values.
  • Recruit, select, and monitor the progress of students participating in the program.
  • Design and implement activities that promote student engagement and success.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with high school faculty, counselors, administrators, parents, and college staff.
  • Represent the Upward Bound program professionally to principals, guidance counselors, students, and community organizations.
  • Promote the Upward Bound program and serve as a college representative in targeted schools.
  • Administer and interpret standardized tests and other relevant assessments.
  • Conduct in-person and online information sessions and recruitment workshops at high and/or middle school locations.
  • Create a calendar of activities aimed at enhancing student engagement and interest in higher education.
  • Coordinate in-person and online tutoring and other support services to assist program participants in achieving high school success.
  • Collaborate with other campus coordinators to plan joint events and field trips.
  • Maintain accurate documentation tracking program participants and interactions.
  • Generate reports to demonstrate the achievement of grant objectives.
  • Assist students in completing college admission and financial aid applications.
  • Special assignments during the summer include coordinating for-credit and non-credit classes, workshops, and field trips.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Services, Counseling, or a related field and
  • One year of relevant program experience in secondary education and/or postsecondary counseling or student services (advising, admissions, financial aid, career counseling) and
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Understanding of recruitment and retention strategies for low-income and first-generation college-bound middle and/or high school students.
  • Familiarity with pertinent federal, state, and local laws, as well as college policies related to student privacy.
  • Ability to develop positive interpersonal relationships to achieve program goals.
  • Proficiency in computer database programs and online communication platforms.
  • Creative skills for in-person and online presentations and group engagement.
  • Knowledge of high school graduation requirements.
  • Understanding of college admission and financial aid application processes.
  • Experience in administering standardized tests and assessments.
  • Awareness of community college standards and practices.
  • Capability to coordinate events and programs effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills using critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience in compiling data to monitor student progress and preparing reports.
  • Public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record as per established college policy.
  • Capability to provide transportation using 12-passenger vans.
