Legal Advisor for Civil and Administrative Matters

Position Overview: As the Branch Head for the Civil and Administrative Law Branch, you will play a pivotal role in providing legal guidance to the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) to the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) on various civil and administrative law matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary legal advisor on all Pentagon administrative law issues, including reviewing congressional legislation, Department of Defense (DoD) directives, and Marine Corps Orders.
- Serve as the principal legal authority on the release of government information under the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act.
- Oversee the Marine Corps Ethics Program, ensuring compliance with electronic financial disclosure report programs and conducting annual ethics training.
- Provide oral and written ethics advice to both military and civilian personnel within the Marine Corps.
- Support the SJA to CMC in overseeing the professional conduct of Marine Corps judge advocates and civilian attorneys.
- Advise on Marine Corps litigation strategies, including collaboration with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and recommending settlement terms.
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and suitable for federal employment.
- Participation in the direct deposit pay program is mandatory.

- Retired military members must adhere to specific appointment provisions.
- Registration for Selective Service is required for males born after a certain date.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to starting the position.
- Travel may be required to various locations, including remote sites.
Qualifications:
Your resume should demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, focusing on legal advice in civil and administrative law, government ethics, and federal litigation.
Additional Information: This position is part of the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program, and multiple vacancies may be filled. Federal annuitant policies apply, and veteran's preference does not apply under this specific hiring authority.
