Job Summary

The Department of Justice is seeking an experienced Attorney Advisor to serve as a subject matter expert in federal information disclosure, including the disclosure of Body Worn Camera (BWC) information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing requests for USMS BWC footage submitted from prosecutors, members of the media, and members of the public.
  • Providing detailed guidance to contract personnel responsible for redacting BWC footage for external dissemination.
  • Reviewing BWC footage prior to external dissemination to ensure all redactions are appropriate and in line with federal law and policy.
  • Responding to inquiries from state and federal prosecutors and counsel regarding USMS BWC Policy and obtaining USMS BWC footage in connection with prosecutions or litigation.
  • Assisting with the compilation and updating of OGC BWC Standard Operating Procedures for submission to the FOIA/PA Officer and OGC management for review.
  • Assisting with the development and presenting of legal training.
  • Reviewing and providing substantive feedback regarding subpoenas, protective orders, court orders, and pleadings relating to both federal criminal and civil matters.
  • Providing substantive assistance in civil litigation matters.
Requirements
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
  • At least 5 years post-J.D. experience, including substantial experience in Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act matters and experience in dealing with complex legal and policy issues.
