Duties
  • You will serve as an Attorney Advisor (Military) in the Judge Advocate Divisions (JAD) of HQ US MARINE CORPS.
  • You will advise and assist the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.
  • You will advise the Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, and Marine Corps staff judge advocates on all military personnel law matters.
  • You will draft, prepare formal comments, or otherwise make substantive recommendations with respect to proposed military personnel legislation.
  • You will review and respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act request, subpoenas, and other inquiries into military personnel matters.
  • You will keep abreast of developments in administrative and military personnel laws, regulations and policies that includes, but is not limited to: officer appointments, officer disciplinary matters, adverse administrative matters.
  • You will make recommendations with respect to proposed military personnel legislation and other military personnel matters.
  • You will manage and administer the department's operations to ensure timely, accurate processing, legal review and tracking of cases.
  • You will serve as the subject matter expert on officer misconduct processing and any related promotion matters.
  • You will provide legal advisory opinions as requested by the Board of Correction for Naval Records.
  • You will conduct compliance reviews of enlisted administrative packages subject to Headquarters Marine Corps or Secretary of the Navy action.

    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
    • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
    • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
    • You will be required to obtain and maintain an active law license in a State or the District of Columbia.

      Qualifications

      Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: prosecution of complex cases, including developing implementing, researching, analyzing and evaluating military personnel laws, regulations and specific programs activities within the Federal legal system.

      Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

      Education

      Must possess J.D. or LL.B from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.

      The successful applicant must be a U.S. citizen, have graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, be admitted to practice before a state or federal court, of good character; and in full compliance with continuing legal education requirements of an appropriate bar. The incumbent must maintain this professional qualification at all times as a condition of employment.

      This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

      This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

      A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
