Position Overview
You will function as a Legal Advisor (Military) within the Judge Advocate Divisions (JAD) of the Department of the Navy. Your primary responsibility will be to provide guidance and support to senior Marine Corps leadership, including the Commandant and Assistant Commandant.

Key Responsibilities
- Offer legal advice to the Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, as well as Marine Corps staff judge advocates, on various military personnel law issues.
- Draft and prepare formal recommendations regarding proposed military personnel legislation.
- Review and respond to requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act, subpoenas, and other inquiries related to military personnel matters.
- Stay informed about changes in administrative and military personnel laws, regulations, and policies, including officer appointments, disciplinary actions, and adverse administrative matters.
- Manage departmental operations to ensure timely and accurate processing, legal review, and tracking of cases.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on officer misconduct processing and related promotion issues.
- Provide legal opinions as requested by the Board of Correction for Naval Records.

Compliance and Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, candidates must:
- Be a U.S. citizen and suitable for federal employment.
- Participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.
- Be able to travel as required, including to remote or isolated locations, and maintain a government credit card for travel-related expenses.
- Obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to starting the role.

Experience and Education
Applicants must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in federal service or comparable experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience should include:
- Prosecution of complex cases, including the development, implementation, research, analysis, and evaluation of military personnel laws and regulations.

Additionally, candidates must possess a J.D. or LL.B from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.

This position is part of the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program and may offer certain incentives for eligible candidates. It is also eligible for part-time, substantial, or ad-hoc telework at management's discretion. Relocation expenses may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations.
