Job Summary

SpaceX is seeking a highly skilled Thermal Engineer to join our Starship Thermal and Fluid Analysis team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the thermal design, testing, and validation of vehicles and hardware.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thermal Design and Analysis: Develop and implement thermal design solutions for spacecraft, launch vehicles, and hardware, from initial high-level analysis to validation of performance with ground tests, flight, and orbital data.
  • Workflow Automation: Automate thermal analysis workflows to reduce engineering investment in per-mission analysis.
  • Performance Improvement: Pursue performance and robustness improvements in thermal systems.
  • Operational Simplicity: Seek to reduce burden on other groups at SpaceX by implementing operational simplicity in thermal systems.
  • Documentation: Produce high-quality documentation of thermal analysis work to reduce miss-rate and improve efficiency.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience using engineering simulation software such as MATLAB.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's Degree: Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Thermal Analysis Experience: 5+ years of professional experience with thermal or fluid analysis.
  • Spacecraft Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of spacecraft and/or launch vehicle systems.
  • Thermal Network Experience: Experience with 0-D and 1-D thermal/fluid networks.
  • Software Skills: Experience with Thermal Desktop and/or ANSYS Workbench.
  • Scripting Knowledge: Working knowledge of scripting languages (specifically Python).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Time Management: Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.
Additional Requirements
  • Availability: Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
