About the Role

As a key member of our Propulsion Systems team at SpaceX, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and production of our advanced rocket engines. Specifically, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of our Merlin Thrust Chamber Assemblies (TCAs), ensuring that they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop TCAs for our Merlin 1D and Merlin 1D Vacuum engines, ensuring that they meet the required standards for life, performance, and reliability targets.
  • Lead the resolution of issues encountered with the TCA during testing or flight operations.
  • Support engine test teams for development, qualification, and production engine tests.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure that TCAs and key sub-assemblies are manufactured correctly and efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, precise, and thoughtfully-dimensioned CAD models and drawings for the TCA.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in hardware or propulsion system development.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible flow, heat transfer, structures, and metallic material science.
  • Experience with thrust chamber design and analysis, including thermal/fluid CFD, structural analysis via hand calcs and FEA, and fatigue/fracture mechanics.
  • Proficiency in CAD design and analysis tools, such as Siemens NX (Unigraphics) and ANSYS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule, without sacrificing safety or reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with rocket engines of any size.
  • 3+ years of experience in TCA or rocket engine development, including internships, personal projects, and school or team projects.
  • Experience with thrust chamber manufacturing and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with thrust chamber testing and engine firing.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel to support testing and launching.
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for security clearance.
