RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MATERIALS TECHNICIAN - THERMAL LAB:
Conduct operation, maintenance, and management of thermal and analytical testing apparatus.

Execute tasks and deliver results for a variety of thermal and analytical testing instruments, including dynamic mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, dilatometry, laser flash analysis, rheology, and infrared spectroscopy.

Utilize thermal testing software for data acquisition and report generation to accurately reflect material characteristics.

Document testing parameters, equipment configurations, and other relevant variables meticulously.

Fabricate various materials to create thermal test samples with precise dimensions, as small as 1mm.

Generate work orders for components that cannot be machined individually and expedite their processing.

Maintain and operate precision calibrated instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and scales.

Coordinate service agreements for laboratory equipment.

Collaborate with procurement to secure necessary supplies for thermal analysis.

Work alongside engineering teams to implement testing procedures.

Ensure general laboratory maintenance, including cleaning, organization, and inventory management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a thermal testing laboratory.

At least 2 years of experience in a machine shop environment.

Associate's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science, or 3+ years of professional experience in a materials testing or evaluation role within the aerospace sector.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Capability to manage multiple tasks and swiftly adapt to changing roles and responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Atlassian JIRA, and work order management systems.

Understanding of thermal testing setups and instruments.

Experience in machining, including operation of mills, lathes, routers, and tile saws.

Knowledge of machining various materials such as polymers, composites, metals, and ceramics.

Experience with CNC machining.

Strong interpersonal and verbal communication abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to work off-hours and be available for overtime and weekends if necessary, with minimal notice (this is infrequent).

Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for thermal and cryogenic testing as well as in a machine shop setting.

Capability to lift 25 lbs unassisted.

Physical activities required for this position include lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S., or protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the necessary authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
