EEE PARTS FAILURE ANALYSIS SPECIALIST

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage issues within SpaceX's non-conformance system for components requiring failure analysis.
  • Lead and facilitate root cause failure analyses of EEE parts from initial evaluation to the completion of Corrective Actions reports.
  • Assess electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of integrated circuits, components, sub-components, and PCBAs to identify failure root causes.
  • Create standardized failure analysis report templates to enhance consistency and efficiency.
  • Produce detailed failure reports and propose corrective measures to avert future occurrences of issues.
  • Utilize failure analysis findings to collaborate with design, process, production, and manufacturing engineers to identify optimal corrective actions for containment and risk assessment.
  • Implement automation and enhancements in the failure analysis process.
  • Act as a technical liaison for failure analysis within the SpaceX certification program.
  • Support the EEE part approval process through comprehensive failure analysis investigations.
  • Determine the most effective analytical methods for addressing critical problems.
  • Establish metrics tracking methods for all known failure analyses to resolve systemic issues and their underlying causes.
  • Innovate with new analytical tools, equipment, and methodologies.
  • Oversee and maintain the failure analysis laboratory.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in reliability engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, physics, electrical engineering, or applied engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in EEE part reliability and qualification, or EEE part design and construction, wafer fabrication, electronic packaging, or materials characterization.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree or PhD in reliability engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, physics, electrical engineering, or applied engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in EEE parts engineering across commercial, automotive, military, and/or aerospace sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of failure modes and mechanisms in both active and passive EEE parts.
  • Experience with medium-scale data management and manipulation tools (e.g., SQL, JIRA).
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the physics of failure approach to reliability.
  • Knowledge of accelerated environmental screening and qualification techniques, along with their corresponding acceleration factors.
  • Experience in wafer fabrication, EEE part production, design, assembly, packaging, and testing environments.
  • Understanding of manufacturing qualification and process controls, including distinctions between commercial, automotive, military, and space-grade EEE parts.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work proactively and effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as AEC, MIL-PRF-38535, MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-1580, EEE-INST-002, PEM-INST-001, SMC-S-011, SMC-S-010, SMC-S-016, IPC, GEIA-STD-0005-2.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
