Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamics Engineer to join our Starship development team at SpaceX. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for predicting the aerodynamics and aerothermal environments of our vehicles during all phases of their missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement advanced aerodynamic models and simulations to predict the behavior of our vehicles in various flight regimes.
  • Collaborate with the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team to ensure safe landing and recovery of our vehicles.
  • Work closely with vehicle structures engineers to ensure accurate predictions of aerodynamic loads and thermal environments.
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models and scripts to support aerodynamic analysis and prediction.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to provide aerodynamic inputs and ensure design integrity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., aerospace, mechanical, or a related field).
  • 5+ years of experience in aerodynamic and aerothermal analysis, with a strong background in external, compressible fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+ and developing scripts in Java for it.
  • Experience with solvers used by NASA for entry vehicles, e.g., FUN3D, Loci/CHEM, DPLR.
  • Experimental testing experience and data processing and analysis skills in MATLAB or Python.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with thermal protection systems and strong background in external, compressible fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with Siemens NX and data processing and analysis skills in MATLAB or Python.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
