Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design and system engineering of cutting-edge micro reactors within the Reactor Project Engineering Department. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule and is situated at our advanced facilities.

INL is recognized as a premier national laboratory for the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy division, spearheading essential nuclear research, development, and demonstration efforts to advance nuclear innovation towards practical applications. Our Materials and Fuels Complex collaborates closely with the National Reactor Innovation Center to facilitate the development of advanced micro reactors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize engineering expertise to oversee the development of advanced micro reactor systems, requiring proficiency in designing various equipment such as reactor instrumentation, motor control centers, and variable frequency drives.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers while assisting management in task allocation within the team.
  • Employ a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles across diverse assignments related to nuclear reactors, including the design of electrical systems and project oversight.
  • Act as a System Engineer for reactor designs, ensuring modifications to existing electrical systems and the development of new capabilities as directed.
  • Provide support for the installation and commissioning of reactor systems.
  • Manage configuration of assigned reactor systems.
  • Collaborate with reactor design teams throughout the lifecycle of the reactor.
  • Monitor system performance and conduct failure analysis.
  • Support operational needs with your expertise in nuclear reactor electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Familiarize yourself with relevant codes and standards, including NEC and IEEE, applicable to nuclear reactors.
  • Manage engineering documentation and drawings effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across various levels of the organization.
  • Analyze complex engineering solutions and contribute to innovative designs.
  • Apply knowledge of variable frequency drives and communication systems in practical scenarios.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of building management systems and HVAC control systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6 years, or a PhD with 2-4 years of applicable experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The salary range for this position is: Level 3 ($91,588) / Level 4 ($109,908). Compensation is determined based on education, experience, and credentials.
