Job Overview

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design and systems engineering of cutting-edge micro reactors within the Reactor Project Engineering Department. The position operates on a 4x10 schedule at our Materials and Fuels Complex. INL is acknowledged as the premier national laboratory for DOE-NE, playing a pivotal role in advancing nuclear research, development, and demonstration capabilities essential for the deployment of nuclear innovations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize engineering expertise to oversee the development of advanced micro reactors, focusing on various equipment designs, including reactor instrumentation, controls, MCCs, motors, and variable frequency drives.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers while assisting the department manager in task assignments within the team.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles across diverse assignments related to nuclear reactors, including the design of electrical systems and project development.
  • Serve in a System Engineering capacity for reactor designs and modifications to existing electrical systems, as directed by the engineering manager.
  • Provide support for the installation and commissioning of reactor systems.
  • Manage configuration of assigned reactor systems.
  • Collaborate with reactor design agents throughout the reactor life-cycle.
  • Conduct performance monitoring and failure analysis.
  • Support operations with your expertise in nuclear reactor electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Understand and apply relevant codes and standards, such as NEC and IEEE, in the context of nuclear reactors.
  • Manage engineering documentation and drawings through configuration management.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across various levels of the organization.
  • Analyze complex engineering solutions and utilize knowledge of variable frequency drives and communication systems.
  • Employ foundational knowledge of building management systems and HVAC unit controls.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6 years, or a PhD with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Eligibility for obtaining and maintaining a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation ranges from Level 3 ($91,588) to Level 4 ($109,908), determined by education, experience, and credentials.
