Position Overview

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to deliver design and system engineering expertise for cutting-edge micro reactors within the Reactor Project Engineering Department. The team operates on a 4x10 schedule at our Materials and Fuels Complex. INL is recognized as a premier national laboratory for the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy program, playing a pivotal role in advancing nuclear research, development, and demonstration capabilities essential for the deployment of innovative nuclear technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize engineering expertise to oversee the development of advanced micro reactors, requiring proficiency in designing various equipment, including reactor instrumentation, motor control centers, motors, and variable frequency drives.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers while assisting the department manager in task delegation within the team.
  • Employ a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles across diverse assignments related to nuclear reactors, including the design of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Serve in a System Engineering capacity for reactor designs executed by design agents, as well as modifications to existing electrical systems and the development of new capabilities as directed.
  • Provide support for the installation and commissioning of assigned reactor systems.
  • Manage configuration of assigned reactor systems.
  • Collaborate with reactor design agents throughout the reactor lifecycle.
  • Conduct performance monitoring and failure analysis.
  • Support operational activities.
  • Leverage experience in designing and installing electrical and control systems for nuclear reactors.
  • Familiarize with relevant codes and standards, including NEC and IEEE standards applicable to nuclear reactors.
  • Utilize experience in managing configuration of engineering documentation and drawings.
  • Engage with colleagues across various levels effectively.
  • Analyze complex solutions critically.
  • Apply knowledge of variable frequency drives and communication systems.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of building management systems and HVAC control systems.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6 years, or a PhD with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
