Job Overview

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to deliver design and system engineering expertise for cutting-edge micro reactors within the Reactor Project Engineering Department. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule at our Materials and Fuels Complex. INL is acknowledged as the premier national laboratory for DOE-NE, playing a pivotal role in nuclear research, development, and demonstration to propel nuclear innovation towards practical deployment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize engineering expertise to oversee the development of advanced micro reactors, requiring proficiency in designing various equipment, including reactor instrumentation and controls, motor control centers, motors, and variable frequency drives.
  • Guide junior engineers and assist the department manager in delegating tasks within the team.
  • Employ comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles across diverse assignments related to nuclear reactors, including the design of electrical systems and equipment, project development, and engineering support during project execution.
  • Fulfill System Engineering responsibilities for reactor designs executed by design agents and modifications to existing electrical systems as directed by the engineering manager.
  • Provide support for the installation and commissioning of assigned reactor systems.
  • Manage configuration of assigned reactor systems.
  • Collaborate with reactor design agents throughout the reactor lifecycle.
  • Monitor system performance and conduct failure analysis.
  • Support operations and utilize experience in the design and installation of electrical and control systems for nuclear reactors.
  • Understand and apply relevant codes and standards, such as NEC and IEEE standards for nuclear reactors.
  • Leverage experience in managing engineering documentation and drawings.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Analyze complex engineering solutions and apply knowledge of variable frequency drives and communication systems.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of building management systems and HVAC control systems.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6 years of experience, or a PhD with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation for this position ranges from Level 3 ($91,588) to Level 4 ($109,908), determined by education, experience, and credentials.
