Senior Power Systems Engineer

The Senior Engineer will conduct interconnection evaluations to support various aspects of the interconnection requests within the PJM queue process. This process encompasses the examination of diverse request types submitted by clients, ensuring compliance with NERC and RFC standards, as well as PJM and transmission owner planning principles. The Senior Engineer will also participate in multiple adequacy and reliability assessments that underpin the planning function, which may include load deliverability evaluations, retirement analyses, and coordination of consultant activities aligned with departmental goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct power system evaluations necessary for generating reports related to interconnection requests, retirement analyses, etc.
- Identify and assess transmission system enhancements needed to address reliability and operational challenges.
- Perform adequacy and reliability assessments for the PJM system.
- Contribute to the development of innovative methodologies in the planning process.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to support the System Planning Division's initiatives.
- Formulate recommendations for PJM management regarding the implementation of new bulk power facilities, programs, procedures, and policies.
- Develop and maintain essential transmission system models required for report generation associated with interconnection requests and retirement analyses.
- Collaborate with transmission owner personnel in refining the necessary enhancements linked to all types of analyses conducted by the department.
- Work alongside other members of the System Planning Division to address complex engineering challenges.
- Represent PJM in industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups concerning planning and engineering issues.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of programming experience for developing analytical and automation tools aimed at enhancing reliability criteria testing and screening.
- At least 5 years of experience in mentoring others in conducting complex studies.
- Ability to produce high-quality deliverables with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience in both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Proficiency in applying mathematical and electrical theories.
- Capability to troubleshoot and provide technical assistance.
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Familiarity with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions.
- Experience utilizing PSS/e (power system analysis program).
