The Senior Engineer will conduct interconnection evaluations to support all facets of the development of interconnection requests within the PJM queue process. This queue process entails the examination of various types of requests submitted by clients, which are assessed for adherence to NERC and RFC standards, as well as PJM and transmission owner planning principles. The Senior Engineer will also participate in a range of other adequacy and reliability evaluations that bolster the planning function, which may encompass load deliverability assessments, retirement analyses, and coordination of consultant activities in alignment with departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute power system analyses necessary for the formulation of reports related to interconnection requests, retirement assessments, etc.
  • Identify and assess transmission system enhancements required to address reliability and operational challenges.
  • Conduct adequacy and reliability evaluations for the PJM system.
  • Recognize and assist in the creation of innovative methodologies within the planning process.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to support the initiatives of the System Planning Division.
  • Formulate recommendations for PJM management regarding the implementation of new bulk power facilities, programs, procedures, and policies.
  • Develop and maintain essential transmission system models required for the generation of reports associated with interconnection requests and retirement evaluations.
  • Collaborate with transmission owner personnel in the development and refinement of necessary enhancements related to all types of analyses conducted by the department.
  • Work alongside other members of the System Planning Division to resolve intricate engineering challenges.
  • Represent PJM in industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups addressing issues related to planning and engineering.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of programming experience for the development of analytical and automation tools aimed at enhancing reliability criteria testing and evaluation.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mentoring others to conduct complex studies.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality work with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Proficiency in applying mathematical and electrical theories.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and provide technical support.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions.
  • Familiarity with PSS/e (power system analysis program).
