Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Modern Hydrogen
Full Time – Onsite
Modern Hydrogen is seeking a talented Senior Manufacturing Engineer to enhance our Design for Manufacturability / Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA) capabilities. As a vital contributor to our Product Development team, you will collaborate closely with internal technical teams to support the production, design, fabrication, and assembly of our innovative commercial products.
This position requires on-site presence at our facility, necessitating work 4+ days per week. Participation in quarterly company events is also expected, aimed at strengthening team bonds and fostering a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop scalable manufacturing systems to facilitate the volume production of new products, including build plans and assembly documentation.
- Oversee and document manufacturing and assembly processes to ensure efficiency.
- Support engineering teams by providing DFM/A insights and advising on cost, design, and functionality trade-offs.
- Implement best practices in manufacturing to enhance design, assembly, and process documentation.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and contract manufacturers to expand internal capabilities.
- Manage manufacturing cost models for various products.
- Collaborate with leadership to shape the company's manufacturing strategy.
- Educate team members on DFM/DFA practices to improve quality and reduce production time and costs.
- Contribute to the development of assembly tooling.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for vendor and customer site visits.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 15 years of experience in product development or manufacturing, preferably in a deep tech/hardware context.
- Experience in establishing and designing pilot manufacturing lines for energy systems.
- Proficient in managing manufacturing and assembly projects, ensuring adherence to schedules and resolving issues.
- Strong understanding of assembly and manufacturing processes for energy systems, including:
- Assembly of chemical reactors and energy systems.
- Welding and assembly of structural components.
- Electrical and controls assembly.
- Handling and positioning of large components.
- Quality assurance processes such as dimensional inspection and leak testing.
- Experience with mechanical quality control techniques and lean manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability and assembly.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
- A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of ASME B31 process gas codes and NFPA fire safety codes.
- Six Sigma certification.
- Hands-on experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience in a startup environment.
