Job Summary

Erie Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Claims Supervisor to oversee the NY PIP (Personal Injury Protection) team. As a Claims Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing overall operations, interviewing, hiring, training, and directing personnel. You will also prepare and conduct performance assessments, coordinate discipline, and oversee employee development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage overall operations of designated area of authority
  • Interview, hire, train, and direct personnel
  • Prepare and conduct performance assessments, coordinate discipline, and oversee employee development
  • Review claims on a regular basis in accordance with company policy
  • Set up files of adjusters, checking for coverage, adequate reserves, and act as a resource for answering claims questions
  • Provide additional services as required, take action as necessary
  • Review claim correspondence and provide counsel on further action
  • Resolve coverage or unusual questions within designated authority
  • Conduct related research as necessary
  • Maintain and apply a working knowledge of adjuster's files
  • Maintain knowledge of statutory laws
  • Makes recommendations to and participates with Claims Manager in developing and evaluating claims procedures
  • Handle claim complaints and inquiries
  • Assist Claim Manager and may act on his/her behalf as necessary
  • Where applicable, receives and directs processing of legal papers served upon ERIE involving claims action
  • Also directs activities of outside legal counsel as required
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Six years of discipline-specific claims adjusting experience, or equivalent estimating experience in a Claims leadership role required
  • In-depth knowledge of estimating software preferred
  • Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred
  • Obtain appropriate licenses as required by state within 45 days of employment in the role for external applicants and 90 days of employment in the role for internal applicants
  • Valid driver's license where required
