Job Overview

The Software Release Management Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the configuration, integration, and ongoing maintenance of software solutions throughout their development lifecycle. This position is essential for ensuring that software modifications are systematically controlled, documented, and deployed with efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in software release management practices, tools, and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute software release management strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Administer and sustain version control systems, including branching, merging, and tagging.
  • Supervise the build and release processes, guaranteeing that software builds are dependable and reproducible.
  • Collaborate with development, quality assurance, and operations teams to facilitate seamless software deployment and integration.
  • Monitor and review software configurations to ensure adherence to organizational standards and policies.
  • Enhance and maintain automated build and deployment pipelines.
  • Track and report on configuration management metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Diagnose and resolve configuration-related challenges.
  • Provide training and support to team members on release management tools and best practices.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of configuration management activities and software artifacts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Subversion, Perforce).
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile and DevOps.
  • Preferred knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMII, ITIL) is preferred.

Experience

  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience as a Software Release Manager or in a comparable role.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) is preferred.
