The Canine Training Specialist is pivotal in ensuring brand consistency and delivering exceptional training programs while upholding operational excellence within the store. This role serves as the primary authority on Petco's Positive Dog Training initiatives, responsible for achieving sales targets through effective engagement and education of store partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the positive training principles of Petco's Positive Dog Training Program, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Confidently execute all responsibilities outlined in the Dog Training Instructor Program.
  • Conduct and promote all current Dog Training curricula effectively.
  • Consistently meet and exceed the store's sales objectives.
  • Act as a resource for fellow Dog Trainers, fostering teamwork to achieve common goals.
  • Engage professionally with pet parents and store partners through effective communication regarding Dog Training and other pet services.
  • Utilize excellent listening skills to coach in a supportive and motivating manner.
  • Influence positively without authority, delivering presentations that capture attention and inspire action.
  • Train store management and partners on promoting Dog Training classes using the G.U.E.S.T.+ model.
  • Maintain timely follow-up with interested pet parents and promote various Dog Training events.
  • Utilize and manage Dog Trainer tools as per operational guidelines to enhance the Dog Training business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with store management, partners, and local adoption organizations.
  • Stay informed about new products and services to effectively engage customers.
  • Complete required training programs and maintain ongoing learning as assigned.
  • Set and track Dog Training class enrollment targets collaboratively with store partners.
  • Schedule and promote a variety of Dog Training classes and events.
  • Adhere to national and local policies regarding the delivery of Dog Training classes.
  • Ensure availability of class-related materials and tools in partnership with the Dog and Cat Department Manager.
  • Employ suggestive selling techniques to drive Dog Training enrollments and meet budget goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Dog Training area in accordance with operational standards.
  • Advocate for the role of Dog Trainer within the store and community, fostering a positive atmosphere.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by understanding and addressing customer needs.
  • Assist with cash register transactions and customer service tasks.
  • Support inventory management and ensure the store is well-stocked.
  • Ensure the well-being of store animals and maintain clean habitats.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks to uphold the store's professional image.
  • Assist in store opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Participate in inventory counts and adhere to safety procedures.
