The Canine Training Specialist is responsible for ensuring brand consistency in dog training, delivering all program offerings, and upholding operational standards within the retail environment. This role serves as the primary resource and leader in the store for Petco's Positive Dog Training program, holding accountability for achieving the store's sales objectives through effective engagement and education of all store partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote the positive training philosophies of the Petco Positive Dog Training Program while ensuring a safe training environment for all participants.
  • Confidently execute all tasks and responsibilities outlined in the Dog Training Instructor Program.
  • Conduct and instruct various Dog Training curricula, consistently meeting and exceeding sales targets.
  • Act as a resource for fellow Dog Trainers, fostering teamwork to achieve common goals.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with pet parents and store partners regarding dog training and related services.
  • Utilize excellent listening skills to coach in an encouraging manner, delivering points clearly and effectively.
  • Influence without authority and excel in formal presentation settings, motivating others through clear direction.
  • Cross-train store management and partners on promoting Dog Training classes using the G.U.E.S.T.+ model.
  • Maintain class-related materials and follow up with interested pet parents in a timely manner.
  • Utilize and maintain Dog Trainer tools as per operational guidelines to drive the Dog Training business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with store management, partners, and local adoption services, promoting Petco's Think Adoption First philosophy.
  • Stay informed about new products and services to effectively engage customers.
  • Complete the Petco Positive Dog Training Instructor Program and other required training within the specified timeframe.
  • Set and record Dog Training class targets in collaboration with store partners and management.
  • Ensure compliance with national and local policies related to the delivery of Positive Dog Training classes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Dog Training area and equipment.
  • Advocate for the role of Dog Trainer within the store and community, promoting a positive atmosphere.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by identifying needs and suggesting appropriate products.
  • Assist with cash register transactions and customer carry-out services.
  • Support inventory management and ensure the store is well-stocked.
  • Ensure the well-being of store animals and report any concerns to management.
  • Participate in routine housekeeping tasks to maintain a professional store appearance.
  • Assist in store opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to safety and loss prevention protocols.

Work Environment:

This position primarily involves indoor work, with some tasks requiring brief outdoor activity. The role involves physical activities such as bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and standing for extended periods, with a significant amount of time spent interacting with customers and their dogs.
