Position Summary:

The Fleet Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing equipment maintenance and repair while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet. This role involves ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company regulations, as well as supporting the achievement of departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Fleet Maintenance Manager in meeting site-specific goals and performance metrics.
  • Supervise trailer repair mechanics to uphold safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Manage daily vehicle work orders to ensure timely repairs and determine actions for breakdowns.
  • Oversee the cleanup of hazardous waste spills.
  • Ensure the sanitation and overall condition of the repair facility.
  • Maintain a vendor network for road breakdowns and ensure fleet compliance with DOT regulations and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Support the training of new mechanics.
  • Establish vendor relationships to secure competitive pricing for parts.
  • Promote a culture of safety by assessing employee safety performance and addressing any concerns promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience with trailer maintenance management software.
  • Ability to develop necessary skills for trailer repair mechanics.

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on class 8 trailers, with skills in heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanics.
  • Experience with air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems is essential.
  • Refrigeration knowledge is a plus.
  • Vocational training in mechanical, welding, or hydraulic trades is preferred.

Working Environment:

  • Exposure to varying climatic conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to walk long distances and sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Fast-paced work environment with exposure to noise.
