Position Overview:
The Underground Geotechnical Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering technical knowledge and assistance through geotechnical engineering practices to support mining operations.


Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report on seismic activities within the mining site, providing essential guidance to operational teams.
- Review engineering plans and offer expertise to implement rock mechanics in underground mine designs.
- Engage in various projects related to ground support, modeling, and strategic planning.
- Deliver geotechnical engineering insights, support, and assessments.
- Prepare evaluations of geomechanical and seismic risks.
- Oversee quality control and testing initiatives.
- Supervise the functionality and efficiency of seismic monitoring systems and protocols.
- Conduct rock bolt pull tests.
- Compile and present comprehensive reports.
- Assist in the annual assessment of the ground control management strategy.
- Collaborate with external entities for investigations and research.
- Manage relationships with contractors and consultants.
- Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Support forecasting, budgeting, and funding requests.
- Facilitate site-specific geotechnical training.
- Recommend research and development projects.
- Be prepared to respond to seismic alerts and incidents during off-hours when designated on-call.


Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related technical field, with a preference for candidates holding a degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Relevant experience in the mining, metallurgy, or mineral processing sectors, or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of mining methodologies, equipment, hydrology, and geotechnical principles.


Skills:
- Proficient in conducting technical audits, analyzing complex engineering plans, and evaluating geological data.
- Competent in reviewing engineering and economic fundamentals that support operations and exploration.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & MS Project) and basic knowledge of AutoCAD; formal training in AutoCAD or Civil3D is advantageous.
- Familiarity with rock mechanics software and capability to perform 3D design modeling.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities, alongside analytical and statistical skills.
