We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Tunneling Engineer to join our team at Actalent. As a Geotechnical Tunneling Engineer, you will be responsible for performing engineering and analysis for the design of tunnels and shafts in soft ground, mixed conditions, and rock.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and Analysis: Perform engineering and analysis for the design of tunnels and shafts, including 3-D soil-structure interaction analysis, geotechnical analysis, and dynamic analysis using advanced finite element software.
- Tunnel Construction Methods: Use various tunnel construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method (SEM), or TBM.
- Design Drawings and Specifications: Prepare detailed calculations, design drawings, and specifications for tunnel projects.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate with Technical Leads, Project Directors, Project Managers, design team, BIM/CADD team, and other stakeholders.
- Ground Support Schemes: Apply rock and soil mechanics skills to evaluate various failure modes and develop ground support schemes.
- Project Documentation: Prepare project documentation such as Technical Memos, Geotechnical Data, Interpretive, or Baseline Reports, or Basis of Design reports.
- Ground Condition Characterization: Characterize and classify ground conditions for different tunneling methods based on geotechnical information.
- Design Communication: Communicate design work through the preparation of drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, and instrumentation.
- Tunnel Analysis and Design Software: Use tunnel analysis and design software such as PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in Geotechnical Analysis and Design, and 3+ years of experience with a mix of underground structure projects.
- Skills: Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, experience with Tunneling, and proficiency with tunnel analysis and design software.
- Tunnel Design Experience: Experience with tunnel design.
- Tunneling Methods: Experience with various tunneling methods such as drill and blast, Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
- Tunnel Analysis and Design Software: Proficiency with tunnel analysis and design software (PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software).
This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site and some days remote.
