Position Overview

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Deputy Director within the Interior Business Center (IBC). This is a Category 4 position with a minimum salary of $180,359.00. Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's current salary and other relevant factors.

Work Arrangement

Routine and situational telework may be authorized at the discretion of the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you will serve as the Deputy to the Director of the IBC, acting as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the leadership and management of complex functions related to enterprise risk and performance management essential for the successful execution of the Department's programs.
  • Providing services through the Office of the Secretary Working Capital Fund and the Interior Franchise Fund, managing reimbursable agreements with customers.
  • Overseeing planning and management of services and operations, ensuring accountability and transparency across all IBC services.
  • Supporting the Director in guiding operations, strategy, resource management, and performance management functions.
  • Leading initiatives to address the organization’s external and internal risks, advising senior leaders on risk management aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to gather insights for IBC's strategy and operations as a federal shared services provider.
  • Coordinating with the Department's Office of Budget and Office of Financial Management to maintain robust budget and financial management controls.
  • Establishing the IBC as a premier shared service provider, creating efficiencies and economies of scale for federal agencies.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to define and deliver shared services, ensuring quality, transparency, and accountability.
  • Leading special projects aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of departmental programs.
  • Representing the Director and IBC in discussions with various stakeholders, serving as a senior expert in operations, strategy, and performance management.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background/suitability investigation required
  • Newly appointed SES members must complete a 1-year probationary period
  • Public Financial Disclosure (OGE-278 filing required)
  • Pre and post-employment drug screening is mandatory
