Patient Medication Liaison

Position Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Access Coordinator plays a vital role within the Pharmacy Department, ensuring that patients maintain financial stability throughout their healthcare journey. This position serves as a crucial link among patients, healthcare providers, pharmacies, insurance companies, and other relevant entities to initiate and resolve appeals when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a mediator between patients and various stakeholders to secure financial assistance for prescriptions.
- Obtain and verify medication insurance coverage, including authorization processes and benefit information.
- Monitor patients' insurance statuses and facilitate medication refill requests.
- Review electronic medical records to gather essential information for prior authorizations and medication refills.
- Assist healthcare providers in completing necessary documentation for authorization requests.
- Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams regarding the status of authorizations and refills.
- Utilize problem-solving skills to address issues promptly and efficiently.
- Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with a keen attention to detail.
Qualifications:
Experience:
A minimum of three years in pharmacy, healthcare, managed care, or a related insurance environment is essential. Familiarity with health insurance terminology, billing practices, and managed care contracting is required.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, with a preference for candidates holding a four-year degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program is advantageous.
Skills:
Demonstrated attention to detail and experience with third-party insurance and medication assistance programs are crucial. Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and ensure customer satisfaction are necessary. Proficiency in various computer systems and electronic health records is expected.
Licensure:
Application for pharmacy technician registration in Wisconsin is required upon hire, with certification through recognized boards to be obtained within the first six months.
