Position Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Access Coordinator plays a vital role within the Pharmacy Department, ensuring the financial accessibility of medications for patients throughout their healthcare journey. This position serves as a crucial link among patients, healthcare providers, pharmacies, insurance companies, and other stakeholders to initiate and resolve necessary appeals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a liaison between patients and various entities to secure financial assistance for prescriptions.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of medication insurance coverage and authorization, while monitoring patients' insurance status.
  • Assist in processing medication refill requests and communicate any insurance-related issues to the healthcare team.
  • Review electronic medical records to gather essential information for prior authorizations and medication refills.
  • Support physicians' offices in completing necessary documentation for prior authorizations.
  • Provide updates to patients and healthcare providers regarding the status of authorizations and refills through various communication methods.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and timely follow-up with relevant parties.
  • Maintain a detail-oriented approach while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment and perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of 3 years in pharmacy, healthcare, managed care, or a related insurance environment is required. Familiarity with health insurance terminology, benefit verification, and billing practices is essential.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a preference for a 4-year degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and experience with third-party insurance and medication assistance programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships and ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities and follow-up skills.
  • Proficiency in various computer systems and electronic health records.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.


Licensure:
Applicants must apply for Wisconsin registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the hire date and obtain it within the specified timeframe. Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcare Association is required within the first 6 months of employment.
