Role Summary:
We are on the lookout for a distinguished leader in geotechnical engineering to enhance our expanding team in Southern California.

The ideal candidate for the Principal Geotechnical Engineer position will possess a robust portfolio of geotechnical business, extensive consulting experience, and established client relationships. This role will provide strategic direction and innovative technical support to grow our client base in Southern California, particularly in San Diego, while overseeing the geotechnical components of projects across various market sectors, focusing on both buildings and public infrastructure enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the development and execution of strategic geotechnical engineering consulting initiatives with both existing and prospective clients, aiming for a minimum of $750,000 in net revenue annually.
  • Actively participate in two or three professional organizations that focus on local market trends and client challenges.
  • Demonstrate a passion for business development, successfully nurturing relationships with new clients while maintaining trust with existing ones.
  • Create annual client action plans, forecast revenue and profits to support strategic initiatives, and lead project pursuits with team members.
  • Formulate and implement business strategies to achieve specified business metrics for our West Coast market (CA, OR, WA, and HI) in collaboration with other offices and senior management.
  • Prepare proposals and negotiate mutually beneficial contracts.
Project Delivery:
Direct and manage geotechnical engineering consulting projects, serving as the primary client liaison.

Ensure the safe execution of all project phases to meet client objectives, adhere to technical standards, and align with company revenue and profitability goals.

  • Exhibit strong technical proficiency in the services required by clients.
  • Oversee all project phases to fulfill client goals and objectives.
  • Direct project execution to meet technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling standards.
  • Mentor staff through a hands-on learning approach.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering with a specialization in geotechnical engineering.
  • Over 15 years of experience in strategic geotechnical engineering consulting within Southern California.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a project management capacity.
  • Professional engineering registration (PE and GE in California).
  • Proven project experience and established relationships with owners and A/E firms in Southern California.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and deliver at least $750,000 in annual net revenue for consulting services.

  • Proficient in writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports to meet scope and quality objectives, as well as client expectations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for business development and collaboration across offices.
