Position Summary

This role is part of the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Supply Chain Category Specialist will work collaboratively with key internal and external partners to facilitate and support intricate sourcing initiatives aimed at achieving category strategy objectives.


FirstEnergy Supply Chain (SC) is enhancing its team across critical categories including Information Technology, Human Resources, Consulting Services, Professional Services, Legal, Communications, Facilities, Real Estate, Engineering, Construction, and Utility Vegetation Management. This initiative is part of a strategic transformation to better support our business partners. The Supply Chain is also implementing a new Source to Pay system, complemented by advanced technology to digitally revolutionize our sourcing and category management operations. Investments are being made in market intelligence software, supplier risk management, spend analytics, and clean sheeting to bolster our strategic sourcing priorities.


Key Responsibilities

- Assist the strategic category manager in realizing substantial cost reductions within assigned categories.
- Formulate contracting optimization strategies focusing on total cost of ownership and service level enhancements.
- Collaborate directly with stakeholders to devise optimization strategies and execution plans.
- Utilize technology, analytics, and tools to gather and assess supplier spend data to drive savings.
- Evaluate supplier performance data and contribute to category sourcing strategies.
- Develop strategic plans for contracting and enhancing managed categories.
- Ensure effective execution of strategies within user areas.
- Lead supplier selection and management processes.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of underperforming suppliers.
- Cultivate knowledge and best practices within assigned categories.
- Ensure user satisfaction throughout the strategic sourcing process.
- Keep the strategic manager updated on acquisition progress.
- Plan and oversee bidding processes for assigned categories.
- Coordinate technical assessments of received proposals with users.
- Negotiate favorable contract terms for FirstEnergy.
- Track market dynamics relevant to managed categories.
- Establish cost benchmarks for categories under management.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on supply chain category strategies, programs, and processes.
- Take full ownership of assigned supply chain categories.
- Provide technical training and education to peers and other departments.


Qualifications

- A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Alternatively, a High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience is acceptable. Relevant experience includes supply chain or sourcing roles.
- Proven success in a procurement organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead procurement-based projects and programs successfully.
- Capability to guide others in projects and resolve complex problems and situations.
- Subject matter expertise in procurement topics pertinent to this role.
- Experience in managing category strategies.
- Development of strategic initiatives for category optimization.
- Defined performance indicators for teams, created in collaboration with the performance management analyst.
- Revised and approved implementation plans by buyers.
- Successful execution of category improvements.
- Compliance with all policies and procedures.
