Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality tutoring services to students, utilizing effective instructional and learning methods to help them achieve their academic goals.
  • Assist students with academic tasks and assignments, including homework, papers, projects, research, and test preparation.
  • Teach study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies to students, tailored to their individual needs and learning styles.
  • Provide a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive tutoring environment, promoting a positive and motivating atmosphere for students.
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing previous session logs and course materials, and requesting relevant resources as needed.
  • Enter tutoring session notes in a timely manner and maintain accurate records using tutor tracking software.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required, and perform other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required; Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in 1-1 and group settings is essential.
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in English composition or writing-based courses is required.
  • Excellent English, writing, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information is crucial.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and computer skills are required.
Working Conditions

The Tutor - Writing Specialist will work in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms and offices, and may be required to work irregular schedules as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position will be based on the highest level of education and expertise in the subject area, as follows:

  • Associate's Degree - $15/hr
  • Bachelor's Degree - $17/hr
  • Bachelor's Degree (in English, communications, English education, or related) - $18/hr
  • Master's Degree (in English, communications, English education, or related) - $20/hr
  • Doctorate Degree (in English, communications, English education, or related) - $22/hr
