Position Overview

The Student Conduct Investigator plays a vital role in the Office of Student Conduct, responsible for examining cases related to student misconduct and organizational violations. This position may also involve inquiries into civil rights matters. The primary duty is to carry out thorough investigations of reported incidents, provide guidance on subsequent actions, and evaluate evidence for potential charges under the Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Associate Director of Student Conduct.
  • Manage case documentation, database records, and compliance with university policies.
  • Collect and organize information to prepare reports for the student conduct process.
  • Maintain accurate meeting notes, spreadsheets, and database entries related to conduct cases.
  • Generate updates on case progress and assist in the assessment of cases requiring investigation.
  • Serve as a resolution coordinator or hearing officer for various misconduct cases.
  • Act impartially during investigations to gather facts, create reports, and compile files for review.
  • Stay informed on best practices in student conduct investigations through professional development opportunities.
  • Foster strong partnerships with campus and community resources to support student success.
  • Assist in outreach and educational initiatives regarding student rights and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to projects that promote student learning and development through effective case management.

General Duties

  • Develop and implement programs to support students facing conduct allegations.
  • Manage a caseload involving incidents that may impact student standing and safety.
  • Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders on shared conduct goals.
  • Engage directly with students throughout the investigation process, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
  • Provide training and resources to university staff on student conduct procedures.
  • Compile reports on case trends and violations for management review.
  • Conduct ongoing research to maintain knowledge of relevant policies and best practices.

Qualifications

Consideration will be given to combinations of education and experience. Higher education qualifications may substitute for work experience and vice versa.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in public affairs, social work, counseling, public health, education, business, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in higher education student affairs or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years in student conduct or higher education.
  • Preferred: 2 years in student conduct, social work, conflict resolution, counseling, or legal fields; 3 years in progressively responsible roles in higher education.

Skills

  • Required: Strong communication skills, professionalism, time management, flexibility, and commitment to quality.
  • Preferred: Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver presentations, and proficiency in technology integration.

Working Conditions

This role requires effective communication and the ability to operate standard office equipment. The position involves both sedentary work and mobility within an office environment.
