Position Overview

The Student Conduct Investigator plays a vital role in the Office of Student Conduct, focusing on inquiries related to student behavior and organizational compliance. This position may also involve examining cases pertaining to civil rights issues. The main duty is to carry out thorough investigations of reported incidents, provide guidance on subsequent actions, and evaluate information pertinent to potential violations of the Student Code of Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Associate Director of Student Conduct.
  • Manages documentation, case files, and data in accordance with university policies.
  • Collects evidence and prepares comprehensive reports for the student conduct process.
  • Maintains accurate records, including meeting notes and database entries related to conduct cases.
  • Generates updates on case progress and assists in the evaluation and reporting of cases requiring investigation.
  • Acts as a neutral facilitator or hearing officer for various misconduct cases.
  • Conducts investigations impartially, compiling information and developing timelines for review.
  • Stays informed on best practices in student conduct investigations through professional development and collaboration with campus partners.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with campus and community partners to support student success.
  • Assists in outreach and educational initiatives regarding student rights and responsibilities.
  • Engages in projects aimed at promoting student learning and development through effective case management.

General Duties

  • Develops programs to support students facing conduct allegations, which may involve legal considerations.
  • Handles a caseload of incidents affecting student standing and ensures compliance with university policies.
  • Collaborates with various departments and external entities to achieve shared goals in student conduct.
  • Interacts directly with students throughout the investigation process, ensuring confidentiality and support.
  • Provides training and resources to university staff on student conduct procedures.
  • Monitors case progress and reports trends to management.
  • Conducts research to remain knowledgeable about relevant policies and best practices.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in public affairs, social work, counseling, education, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in higher education or student affairs.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years in student conduct or higher education.
  • Preferred: Additional experience in social work, conflict resolution, or related fields.
